RV Photo: NW Adventure Rentals

Are you starting to feel stir crazy?

The sheltering in place, not getting a good social fix, seeing bad news on the television every single day, and repeatedly cooking at home for months on end has made a general sense of angst very palpable.  We need a vacation!  But how does one go about taking a vacation when she is required to keep a distance, stay safe and healthy, and follow CDC protocol?  How about renting an RV?

I have the pleasure of knowing the patriarch of the family whose son owns NW Adventure Rentals (link to website here), which has locations in both Seattle and Portland.  Early in the pandemic, they hustled to make their RVs safe and accessible to those of us who need to get away from it all.  They are diligently working with and following CDC standards to ensure the safest, most sanitary and healthful vacation possible.  With these RV’s, you can rest assured that you are out of viral harm’s way while having a break from the glaring stressors in what we consider normal life these days.

These rentals are fully furnished and ready to go. All include private bathrooms and a functioning kitchen.  You are welcome to bring your comestible provisions, but these guys will stock your fridge for you if you deem it a better option.

Once you have secured your RV, you are at liberty to take it anywhere you want, except for Mexico.  Imagine loading up and finally going to see those sites you have been meaning to visit.  What about a haunted house tour, or famous movie scene locales?

Many people who are fortunate enough to still be working are doing so from home.  That gets mundane in a hurry.  Merely getting out into nature, even while you work, can have tremendously mollifying effects on a person. Who wouldn’t love a mandatory Zoom meeting on a cliff overlooking the Pacific?

What I would do, if I had an RV vacation, is go on a food tour.  Restaurants are shuttering at an alarming rate—they need our support.  I have a lot of places in mind where I would like to dine.  You can map out all the eateries that you have been meaning to try (thank you, Anthony Bourdain), and plan your trip accordingly.  You could hit one or two stops every day, pick up your fare to-go and enjoy a sought-after meal safely, with the added satisfaction that you have done your part in helping a business to stay open.

Whatever your plans, you can revel in the newfound freedom to go wherever you want to go, on your own time, and without the hassle of being in public.
