Even on a vacation, sometimes you just need to get away.

We've picked out five secluded spots for the wandering introvert. Here is your go-to list of Seattle NorthCountry spots to sit, sip, read, or just enjoy a micro mental-health break. Let’s start north and work our way down.

Marysville

For some, the lure of casinos isn’t so alluring. If your travel companions are headed that direction, have them drop you off in downtown Marysville, where you’ll find Wit’s End Bookstore (1530 Grove St, Marysville, WA 98270), an inviting spot to rest with a cup of coffee and a new novel.

Everett

There are a couple of things to love about Siren’s Coffee (3021 Rucker Ave, Everett, WA 98201). The vibe is Grandma’s attic funky, with cushy vintage chairs and a curio shop in the back. The location is just enough off the beaten path that you won’t feel rushed, even if you bring your knitting and spend some time really savoring an especially unique tea.

Monroe

Those headed east on Highway 2 should cut right onto Main St to find Original Pilot House Coffee (408 W Main St, Monroe, WA 98272). Freshly roasted coffee and easy chairs invite you to settle in and relax.

Mill Creek

The Mill Creek Town Center may seem like an unexpected spot for a low-key escape, but don’t be fooled. On the northern edge of the main drag, you’ll find Spotted Cow Coffee (15118 Main St #700, Mill Creek, WA 98012). Their beans are roasted in-house, their ice-cream is divine, and they have cozy chairs to sink into with a good book. If the sun shines, nearby access to the North Creek Trail offers a breath of nature just a few steps away.

Edmonds

For those who’d prefer a nightcap to an eye-opener, there’s a tiny treasure in downtown Edmonds known as Daphne’s (415 1/2 Main Street Main Street). Soft chairs and craft cocktails; who could ask for more?
