When you visit Yakima Valley wine country, you have the opportunity to experience a lot more than wine.

Wineries are featuring art collections, food trucks, bocce ball, yoga classes, paint nights and vineyard experiences–all for the purpose of vying for your attention.

Music has become a major entertainment focus for the wineries. Appealing to the five senses of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch all at the same time is difficult to do.  Local wineries are doing just that by adding music to the wine tasting experience. Whether it’s a live performance outside in the vineyard, recorded music playing in a tasting room or an evening with a band, music adds just the right element to engage the senses.

Downtown wineries AntoLin Cellars and Kana Winery offer live music in their tasting rooms every weekend. This started with the First Friday events. “The concept was so successful we started bringing in live music regularly,” says Katherine Goodsen, General Manager of Kana Winery, adding “It’s a great evening out.”

Live music isn’t just for downtown tasting rooms. Valley wineries are offering music entertainment for special events such as release Parties and spring barrel tastings. For a handful of local wineries, a summer music series is a seasonal focus. What’s better than sipping a glass of wine in a beautiful vineyard with live music playing to the audience during one of Yakima Valley’s beautiful summer evenings?

  1. J. Bell Cellars in Zillah offers a jazz series during the summer months. The series features an intimate evening in their European style courtyard with a roaring fire pit, food available for purchase, wine and of course outstanding jazz music. These are evening performances typically running from 6-9pm at the winery.

One of the longest-running musical highlights of summer is Gilbert Cellars’ annual Music in the Vines concert series.  Each year the winery showcases a wide array of music in an outdoor amphitheater at the winery’s production facility in West Valley.

The eclectic music presented ranges from funk to indie to country to folk to bluegrass. “We try to appeal to all music interests and demographics,” says Gloria Gilbert, General Manager of Gilbert Cellars. Past concerts have included LeRoy Bell, Chatham County Line, Hey Marseilles, and Holly Williams.

“The music series gives us an opportunity to showcase the beauty of the Yakima Valley while offering a fun outdoor experience for our customers,” according to Gilbert. “We have such a beautiful music venue, we would be crazy not to take advantage of it.  The concerts allow us to feature great music, wine country views, breathtaking sunsets, summer fare, and award-winning wine.”

If you are a Gilbert Cellars wine club member, you can enjoy visiting the “Farmhouse” during the concerts. Club members enjoy a seating area in the shade, separate bar, and special glass pours. “It’s just another way to experience the concerts,” adds Gilbert.
