Witnessing a balloon ascension at dawn is an almost mystical experience.

That’s if you’re on the ground. No doubt experiencing such an ascent from the gondola beneath the rising balloon is even more exciting.

The annual Great Prosser Balloon Rally takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Balloon ascensions are held in conjunction with Prosser’s Harvest Festival, another annual event in this Washington wine country town.   Visitors will have the opportunity to see these colorful conveyances on the ground and as they ascend from the Prosser Airport each morning. An added feature is a Saturday evening gathering at Art Fiker Stadium dubbed Night Glow. Though balloons won’t actually be flying at night, they’ll rise on tethers to be illuminated above the crowd enjoying the music below.

Three days of activities are planned for the concurrent Harvest Festival, which will include food booths, arts and crafts vendors, a farmers market and pony rides and games planned to amuse younger visitors. Also scheduled is the Caren Mercer-Andreason Street Painting Festival taking place on 6th Street Saturday and Sunday. Artists will work in chalk as they create short-lived masterpieces on pavement. More details on these events can be had at TourProsser.com.
