Tuners Light Up Car Museum

If the term “collector car” brings to mind the big curves of the ‘40s, massive fins of the ‘50s and the pure muscle of the ‘60s, you’re missing out on a whole genre of vehicle that is to automobiles what science fiction is to literature.

America’s Car Museum – North America’s largest automotive museum – explores tuner culture in their new exhibition, Glow: Tuners@ACM.

The vehicles on display pack massive amounts of horsepower into small, light vehicles and then deck them out with custom lighting, body kits, suspensions, paint jobs and decals. More than just vehicles, the exhibition explores the car culture that gave us the worldwide smash-hit Fast and Furious series of movies.

Glow is dedicated to the extremes to which enthusiasts will go to give their car the most unique look and highest performance. Individuality and uniqueness are prized, and many of the cars fit and reflect the owner’s aesthetic and personality.

From an iridescent Mazda Miata and throwback Nissan Skyline to the BMW M3 that won the Best European Award at Stancewars this year, this exhibition shows what’s possible when the car you drive home from the dealership is just a blank canvas.

The Glow:Tuners@ACM exhibition is on display now through spring 2019 at LeMay – America’s Car Museum in Tacoma.
