TASTE News Service, August 6, 2019 – Are you aware there’s a National Lentil Festival? Well, there is and it’s celebrated every year.

In fact, this month will be the 31st annual such event.

The southeast area of Washington is known to produce some of America’s highest-quality lentils. Pullman celebrates the delicious legumes every August, with a two-day event the whole family can enjoy. This year’s festival will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 16 and 17. Attractions will include their Legendary Lentil Cook-Off, live music, arts & crafts, and of course, the complementary bowl of chili from their colossal 350-gallon bowl (pictured above).

The festivities kick off on Friday, August 16, at 9 a.m. with the Tase T. Lentil Mini Golf Tournament at the Airway Hills Golf Center.

The festival officially opens at 5 p.m. on Friday at Reaney Park and Spring Street. Here you can enjoy free chili from the World’s Largest Bowl, ZFun mix and trivia, a live cooking demo segment, and live music from Clare Dunn, Smithfield, Melodime and Aaron Cerutti.

The lentil weekend festivities begin bright and early Saturday morning with the Tase T. Lentil 5K Fun Run at 7:30 a.m. at the Pullman Heritage Depot.

Before the festival officially opens, there are still many activities to attend, such as the Pullman Lion’s Club Lentil Pancake Breakfast, Circles of Caring Tennis Tournament, Co-ed Softball Tournament, Tase T. Lentil Mini Golf Tournament, 3-on-3 Hoop Classic, Walk of Fame Ceremony, and the WSECU Grand Parade.

Once the festival opens at 11 a.m., Reaney Park and Spring Street will be the site for live cooking demos, the Lil’ Lentil Royalty Coronation, Legendary Lentil Cook-off, and a day full of live music from The Talbott Brothers, The Fabulous Kingpins, and Andru Gomez & the Bad Apples.

The Lentil Land Kid’s Area is a great place for kids to do arts and crafts, science experiments with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, and even get the chance to meet Tase T. Lentil!

Organizers of the event informed us that In 2018 a combined $6,819.91 was donated to entities in the Pullman community from proceeds raised from food/beverage sales and 5K Fun Run registrations.
