Since their inception over a decade ago, the two wineries have shared a winemaking team (under the direction of Thomas Glase), wine-growing team (under the direction of Tom Waliser), and location on the pastoral south side of Walla Walla. In the past, both wineries maintained separate tasting rooms, vineyard selections, and owner preferences with regard to wines to produce and the style of production each vintage. The idea to combine the wineries into one entity has been a very natural progression over the years.
“Over the past few years as the wineries have grown, Balboa has been in need of additional space for operations. At the same time our business partner, Tom Waliser, has wanted to be able to spend more time focusing on what he loves best, winegrowing,” mentioned Thomas Glase. “We are confident that this merger will allow us to refine our wines and produce even better products for our buyers in the future.”
In the months ahead there will be many updates to the winery property including a remodel of the former Beresan tasting room for the everyday tasting space, and renovating the current Balboa tasting room into a special event space complete with a commercial kitchen. The team is excited to fine-tune their labels and streamline the brand to focus on the best of both wineries in the year ahead. Plans include new events, limited food service and other changes beginning this summer.
