Chuckanut Brewery
Bellingham, WA
Style: German/Czech Pilsner
Alcohol: 5%
IBUs: 36
Serving Style: Bottles, cans and kegs
Availability: Good year-round distribution throughout Washington
Appearance: “Bright golden color. Good carbonation and a fluffy, white head.”
Aroma: “Somewhat citrussy and, at the same time, seems malty—almost yeasty.”
Taste: “I described the appearance as ‘bright,’ but I think that can be said about the flavor, too. There’s a bitterness that probably gives it that crisp and refreshing taste.”
Food Affinity: “I drank a lot of beer with meals when I was in Thailand—Singha and Amarit, was the other label, I think. They tasted very good with that food that often was spicy-hot. I don’t think Czech food is particularly spicy, but that culture has spawned a style of beer (Pilsner) that should work wonderfully with Thai food or Szechwan and Hunan styles of Chinese food, too.
