Chuckanut Helles Lager Picmonkey

Helles Lager

Chuckanut Brewery

Bellingham, WA

Style: Munich-style lager

Alcohol: 5%

IBUs: 22

Serving style: kegs

Availability: Seasonal in spring in the Northwest

Appearance:   “It’s a light golden color, almost a light, bright yellow. Nice creamy white head.”

Aroma:   “It reminds me of freshly-baked bread. It’s sort of like that quality you get when you smell just-opened (real French) Champagne.”

Taste:   “Malty, but not in a ponderous way. It’s crisp. I think ‘helles’ may mean bright in German and that sounds appropriate for this beer.”

Food Affinity:   “Cobb salad. Slices of smoked chicken breast. Split pea soup with rye bread toast.”
