pFriem VIENNA LAGER

Vienna Lager

pFriem

Hood River, Oregon

Style: Vienna Lager

Alc: 5.3%

IBUs: 20

Serving style: 12 oz and 500 ml bottles

Availability: Winter seasonal in the Northwest

Appearance:   “The color is a dark amber—or maybe copper? Creamy white head that shrinks a little at first, then hangs in there for quite a while:

Aroma:   “More malty than hoppy. Has a little of that ‘freshly-baked bread’ smell with maybe a wisp of toffee in the background.”

Taste:   “Lots of that maltiness is apparent. Though there’s plenty of good carbonation, it also seems creamy. A good finish that’s a bit sweet, but it’s well-balanced beer overall.”

Food Affinity:   “Well I wouldn’t recommend it with Sacher Torte, but savory Viennese dishes of veal and rabbit would be good. If that’s sort of exotic, maybe to accompany a nice roast American chicken or a sandwich of cold cuts on pumpernickel bread.”
